The Barcelona Reed Quintet is the only stable camera group of its kind in Spain.
Composed entirely of cane instruments, this peculiarity gives the group a very original and attractive sound that offers a range of colors and timbres practically unknown in today’s wind ensembles.
It was born in 2010 in Barcelona and soon they have established themselves as a reference group in Barcelona. As a quintet they have received advice from Salvador Brotons, Arno Bornkamp, Jan Cober, David Tomás, Ralf Gothóni, Eduard Brunner and the Calefax Reed Quintet.
The BRQ has been a resident group of the Barcelona Auditorium during the 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons. He has also performed numerous concerts in Catalonia, the Balearic Islands and Andalusia, having been a guest group of the III Mallorca Saxophone Festival (2011). In December 2010 they were specially invited to inaugurate the new auditorium of Barcelona Auditorium “Alicia de Larrocha”, where they premiered an adaptation of the Salvador Brotons wind quintet, written for the occasion. It also highlights his participation in the Cultural Week of the Conservatory of Pozoblanco (Córdoba), the opening concert of the course “Alcosax” of Alcorisa (Teruel) and the concert offered at the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona last January 2013.
The Barcelona Reed Quintet have been recorded on several occasions by the Catalunya Música radio station.
In 2012 they recorded the syntony of this station composed by Jesús Rodríguez Picó. These recordings have been published in a CD edited by the magazine 440 Clàssica in commemoration of the 25th anniversary of Catalunya Música.
They currently have a residence in the Ateneu Barcelonès for the 2013-14 season, as well as projects with the Tàpies Foundation and the Barcelona Auditorium for the 2014 Japan Festival.
